ON SITE is the first residency programme within the context of Hypertextile 2027, the first edition of a biennial textile art festival in the Alentejo region, organised by Córtex Frontal and integrated into the official programme of Évora27 European Capital of Culture.
In a territory where carpets have been hand-embroidered since the Middle Ages, the festival invites a reflection on textiles as a way of (re)interpreting the place and discovering Arraiolos through contemporary art.

OBJECTIVE

The programme offers five visual artists the opportunity to take part in a research and creation residency focused on the relationship between art and territory, in Arraiolos in May 2026. Throughout the residency, the artists will work directly with Arraiolos, exploring its heritage, landscape, textile practices, and local history. The process will culminate in the creation of five site-specific works, indoors or outdoors, to be presented at Hypertextile 2027.

BENEFITS

For the residency, participants receive a participation grant, accommodation, access to workspace and equipment, travel and production support, and curatorial guidance throughout the project.
For the exhibition, benefits include the transport and insurance of artworks, artists’ travel and accommodation for the opening, and inclusion in the Hypertextile 2027 catalogue.
